Bürosit

Yumak Project

Bürosit shares it production capacity and know-how with academia through a design competition for senior students involving Middle East Technical University, Department of Industrial Design and OMSIAD (Office Furniture Producers Association). Each year, one student’s design project is realized at Bürosit R&D Center, located in the Bürosit plant in Bursa. The aim of the competition is to choose furniture design projects and invite METU’s senior Industrial Design students to take part in product development processes at Bürosit R&D Center. Thus, students get first hand experience of mass production methods and work conditions in an industrial plant.

The product development processes we follow through with students form METU’s Industrial Design program include the transformation of conceptual design to prototype, testing and the modification of parts to prepare for mass production. The steps of these processes involve the following: evaluation of ideation, utility and the design concept, endurance analysis of the product according to function, redrawing of parts according to mass production conditions, making necessary modifications, acquisition of materials according to final product design and production of the prototype.

In Fall 2011, Merve Özdemir’s design project Yumak, a single-person chair or sofa for waiting rooms and lounges, was realized. METU’s Industrial Design program students encountered and solved problems in all phases of product design, development and production.
